Steps to completing your application

Most offers to 2024 Year 12 applicants will be made after ATARs are released, but there are many offer rounds throughout the year.

Application and offer dates: semester 2, 2024 and semester 1, 2025

* Do not change your courses between this date and the date offers are released; if you do, you may miss out on an offer to your preferred course.

Conditional offers

After you have applied through UAC, you’ll receive a conditional offer letter, which you may use as part of your pre-visa assessment if required. Your conditional offer letter will list all the courses for which you have applied. Access this letter by logging in to your application.

This letter is a conditional offer of admission only; it doesn't mean you are eligible to enrol in a course of study. To be eligible to enrol in a course of study, you need to receive an unconditional offer, meet the minimum admission requirements of the institution and compete against other applicants for a place.

Unconditional offers

UAC starts issuing unconditional offer letters to successful applicants on behalf of institutions mid-May. However, most offers will be made from late December, after final Year 12 results have been received.

To receive an unconditional offer for a course you must have it in your list of courses when offers are made, have a selection rank (or equivalent) equal to/or higher than the final lowest selection rank for admission to the course, and have met any other entry requirements for the course.

You do not have to provide a copy of your results to UAC as we obtain them directly from the relevant Australian organisation or the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

Ask your school IB Diploma coordinator to authorise the International Baccalaureate (IB) to release your IB Diploma results directly to UAC. This needs to be done in addition to any other request for results to be sent to an institution.

As interstate Year 12, International Baccalaureate and New Zealand NCEA results are released on various dates, UAC cannot guarantee inclusion and assessment of these results in time for a specific offer round.

If you don't receive an offer in one round, you can log in to your application and change your course selection for the following round. If you are not made any offers for admission throughout the year, we'll email you after the February and March rounds.

To study in Australia you need to apply for a student visa. A student visa allows you to come to Australia for a specified period to study at an educational institution. To be eligible for a student visa, you need to meet the conditions set by the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs.

After you accept your offer and pay your fees, you will receive a Confirmation of Enrolment from the institution. You must have a Confirmation of Enrolment at the time of making your student visa application.

Students under 18 years of age

If you will be under 18 years of age when you arrive in Australia to study, special requirements are in place. Before you are granted a student visa, the Australian Government must be satisfied that you have appropriate accommodation, support and general welfare arrangements in place for the period that you will be under 18 years of age while in Australia.

Each institution decides whether they will accept responsibility for welfare arrangements for international students who are under 18 years of age.

Overseas Student Health Cover

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is insurance for international students to help them with the costs of medical and hospital care they may require while they are in Australia. OSHC does not cover dental treatment.

The Australian Government requires all international students on a student visa and their dependants to purchase an approved OSHC policy from an Australian registered health fund for the duration of their visas.

OSHC is not included in tuition fees.

Belgian, Norwegian and Swedish students

Some Belgian, Norwegian and Swedish students are not required to purchase OSHC as part of their visa requirements; they are considered to have met ‘adequate insurance’ requirements due to a reciprocal arrangement between their country and the Australian Government.

How do I organise OSHC?

Many institutions have arrangements with preferred OSHC providers and can help you to organise your insurance. However, you can choose your own OSHC provider. A list of OSHC providers, together with general information about OSHC, is available from the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman website.

You must organise and pay for OSHC before you arrive in Australia. Once you receive an unconditional offer to study at an Australian educational institution, you will be required to pay your OSHC charge at the same time that you pay your tuition fee deposit.
